Transform range hoods, backsplashes, feature walls and architectural details with hand-applied microcement, lime plaster and metallic finishes. All Time Paint & Plaster creates custom kitchen surfaces designed around the architecture, cabinetry, stone and overall character of the space.
Kitchen surfaces do not have to be limited to traditional tile, stone or standard paint. Hand-applied decorative finishes can create seamless, organic or dramatic surfaces that integrate with cabinetry, countertops, lighting and the architecture of the room.
At All Time Paint & Plaster, we use multiple finish systems — including microcement, lime plaster and metallic plaster — so the material can be selected around the desired appearance and application rather than forcing every kitchen into one product.

Start With the Surface
Where Decorative Finishes Can Be Used in a Kitchen
Range Hoods
A plaster-finished range hood can turn a functional kitchen element into an architectural focal point. Depending on the desired look and substrate, finishes may include microcement, lime plaster or metallic plaster.
Selected decorative finish systems can be used on vertical island surfaces and architectural cladding to create a continuous custom look. Working countertop surfaces are evaluated separately — not every finish belongs there.
Bar & Beverage Areas
Custom plaster and metallic finishes can create distinctive walls, backsplashes and architectural surfaces in home bars, coffee stations and beverage areas.
Architectural Details
Niches, columns, arches, wall panels, soffits and custom kitchen features can be finished where the substrate and finish system are appropriate.
Samples & Finish Selection
Decorative Plaster Samples and Selection
Choosing a decorative plaster finish from a screen or a small color chip rarely shows the whole story. Visit our Wayne office to compare real hand-finished sample boards and see how the texture, sheen and movement of each finish respond to natural and artificial light.
Our sample collection covers Venetian and lime plaster, Roman clay, microcement and textured stone-look finishes in soft whites, warm neutrals, terracotta, greys and charcoals. We’ll help you narrow down the finish, texture level and tone that best suits your kitchen, lighting and the cabinetry and stone you are coordinating with.

We do not sell one material for every kitchen. The finish is selected around the application, the design, the substrate, the texture you want and how the surface will be used.
Microcement
Seamless • Contemporary • Stone-Like
Microcement creates a refined continuous surface with a modern stone or cement character. It works especially well when the design calls for minimal joints, subtle movement and a more architectural appearance.
Common kitchen applications
— Range hoods
— Backsplashes
— Feature walls
— Vertical island surfaces
— Architectural details
Best for: Modern, minimalist and stone-inspired kitchens.
Lime plaster creates natural movement, soft tonal variation and a hand-finished appearance that works especially well in warm, organic and European-inspired kitchens.
Common kitchen applications
— Range hoods
— Feature walls
— Selected backsplash applications
— Arches
— Architectural details
Best for: Warm, organic, old-world and natural stone-inspired interiors.
Metallic plaster creates a completely different visual experience from traditional paint or mineral plaster. Depending on the product and technique, the surface can range from softly reflective to dramatic and highly dimensional.
Common kitchen applications
— Statement range hoods
— Feature walls
— Bar areas
— Backsplashes where appropriate
— Niches
— Architectural panels
Best for: Statement kitchens, luxury interiors and spaces where the finish is intended to become a focal point.
Not every lime or metallic plaster is suited to every high-heat or splash-prone location. We confirm the system for each surface before recommending it.

An Alternative to Tile
Seamless Decorative Backsplashes
For clients who want something different from traditional tile, selected decorative finishes can create a more continuous backsplash with fewer visual breaks and a custom hand-applied appearance.
Microcement
Continuous contemporary surface with a stone or cement character.
Lime Plaster
Organic mineral movement with softer texture and tonal variation.
Metallic Plaster
A more dramatic statement finish where the product and application are suitable.
The exact system depends on the substrate, cooking exposure, moisture, cleaning requirements, heat, the finish selected and its protective coating. Not every lime or metallic plaster belongs directly behind every cooktop.
Lower-Contact Surfaces
Feature Walls With More Character Than Paint
Not every specialty kitchen finish needs to be in a high-contact area. Walls away from cooking and splashes are the place for more artistic finishes that may not be the first choice for a working backsplash.

Gentle cleaning; avoid abrasives
The best choice depends on the substrate, location in the kitchen, desired appearance and how the surface will be used.
Practical Choices
Designed for Real Kitchen Conditions
Finish selection should consider cleanability, splash exposure, grease, heat, moisture, touch and abrasion, and sealer requirements. Decorative finishes need gentle care — no surface is maintenance-free.
Pricing
What Affects the Cost of Decorative Kitchen Finishes?
Cost depends on the finish selected, surface size and condition, range hood geometry, corners and returns, backsplash layout, substrate preparation, texture complexity, sample development, protective coatings and access. We price each kitchen after reviewing photos or visiting.
Professional Judgment
When Standard Paint May Be the Better Choice
Decorative finishes are not necessary on every kitchen surface. Where easy repainting, frequent color changes or simpler maintenance matter most, a high-quality paint finish may serve better. See our interior painting services.

Decorative Kitchen Finishes Throughout North Jersey
All Time Paint & Plaster Co. is based in Wayne, New Jersey and provides custom kitchen plaster, microcement and specialty finish services throughout Bergen, Passaic, Morris, Essex and Hudson Counties.
What decorative finishes can be used in a kitchen?
Our main kitchen finishes are microcement, lime plaster and metallic plaster, with Roman clay and Venetian-style finishes for feature walls. The right choice depends on where the surface is, the substrate and how it will be used.
Can microcement be used as a kitchen backsplash?
Often, yes, when the substrate is suitable and the system is sealed as specified for kitchen use. We evaluate heat, splash and cleaning needs before recommending it.
Can lime plaster be used on a range hood?
Yes. Range hoods are one of our most common plaster applications. A protective treatment is usually recommended depending on the system and how the kitchen is used.
Can metallic plaster be used in a kitchen?
Yes, on feature walls, range hoods, bar areas and niches. Whether it suits a backsplash depends on the product and how close it is to cooking heat and splashes.
Can decorative plaster go over existing tile?
Sometimes. Existing tile must be sound and properly prepared with the primer the system specifies. In some cases removing the tile or adding a new substrate is the better option — we decide after seeing it.
Which finish is best for a range hood?
There is no single best finish. Microcement suits modern kitchens, lime plaster suits warm and organic designs, and metallic plaster suits statement kitchens.
Are decorative kitchen finishes easy to clean?
They can be cleaned gently, especially when sealed. They are not maintenance-free — avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners, and some systems benefit from periodic resealing.
Can you match a finish to my cabinets or countertops?
Yes. Bring cabinet doors, countertop samples, tile or hardware and we will develop a finish color and texture that complements them.
Can I see samples before choosing a finish?
Yes. You can compare microcement, lime plaster, metallic and other finishes at our Wayne, NJ studio by appointment.
Do you install decorative kitchen finishes throughout North Jersey?
Yes. We are based in Wayne and work throughout Bergen, Passaic, Morris, Essex and Hudson Counties.
