More Than a Color Change

The Finish Starts With the Preparation

A refined interior paint finish depends on what happens before the final coat. We evaluate the walls, ceilings, trim and doors; protect the surrounding space; complete the agreed repairs; sand and prime where required; and select coatings suited to each surface.

All Time Paint & Plaster Co. provides interior painting for occupied homes, renovations and new construction throughout Northern New Jersey.

Paint Systems

Products Selected for Each Surface

Walls, ceilings, bathrooms, high-traffic areas, trim and doors each have their own demands for durability, washability and appearance.

We primarily work with Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams, and we also use Fine Paints of Europe for projects that call for a traditional, high-end finish — choosing the product for the application rather than one paint for every surface.

We can also guide you on color, sheen and wall-and-trim coordination. Preview colors with our free Color Visualizer.

Typical sheen by surface

Walls
Matte or eggshell, depending on the room and durability requirements.
Ceilings
Typically a flat, low-reflective finish, depending on design.
Bathrooms
A moisture-appropriate finish system.
Trim & Doors
A durable enamel-type finish selected for wear.
High-Traffic Areas
More washable, durable coatings where required.

Final recommendations depend on the room, its use and the design.

Questions

Interior Painting FAQs

Do you protect furniture and floors?

Yes. Floors, furniture, cabinetry and surrounding surfaces are covered and protected before any preparation or painting begins, and work areas are cleaned at the end of each day.

Do you repair walls before painting?

Yes. Nail holes, cracks, dents and damaged areas are repaired, sanded and spot-primed as needed before finish coats. The amount of repair depends on the condition of the existing surfaces.

Do you offer skim coating for damaged walls?

Yes. Walls that are heavily damaged, uneven or show visible patching can be skim coated for a higher level of finish. Skim coating is an additional preparation service and is included only when specified in the written estimate.

What paint brands do you use?

We primarily work with Benjamin Moore and Sherwin-Williams, and we also use Fine Paints of Europe on projects where a traditional, high-end finish is called for. The specific product is chosen for the surface and room — walls, ceilings, bathrooms, trim and doors often call for different products.

Do you paint trim and doors?

Yes. Baseboards, casings, crown molding, window trim, interior doors, built-ins and stair components can all be included, each with its own preparation and finish system.

Do you spray trim and doors?

On suitable projects, trim, doors and millwork are spray-finished for a smoother, more refined result. Whether spraying is the right approach depends on the space, the surfaces and whether the home is occupied.View More Questions
How long does interior painting take?
It depends on the number of rooms, the amount of preparation and the surfaces included. We'll review the expected schedule with you as part of your estimate.
Can we stay in the house while work is being completed?
In most cases, yes. We plan the work room by room and keep work areas protected and organized. We'll discuss sequencing with you before the project starts.
Do you help with color and sheen selection?
Yes. We can guide you on color, sheen, wall and trim coordination, and which finishes suit each room. You can also preview colors with our free Color Visualizer.
What affects the cost of interior painting?
Room size, ceiling height, wall condition, the amount of repair or skim coating, the number of colors, trim and doors, staircases, whether the home is occupied, access and product selection. Every project is priced according to its actual scope.
