Frequently Asked Questions
How much paint do I need for a 12x12 room?
A standard 12x12 room with 8-foot ceilings has approximately 384 sq ft of wall space. After deducting for doors and windows, you'll typically need 2-3 gallons for two coats of paint.
How many sq ft does 1 gallon of paint cover?
One gallon of interior paint typically covers 350-400 square feet per coat, depending on the paint sheen and wall texture. Flat/matte finishes cover more area than gloss finishes.
Should I buy extra paint?
Yes! We recommend purchasing 10-15% more paint than calculated. This accounts for touch-ups, wall texture variations, and having matching paint for future repairs.
How do I calculate paint for textured walls?
Textured walls absorb more paint. For lightly textured walls, add 15-20% to your estimate. For heavily textured surfaces like stucco, add 25-50% more paint.
What's the difference between paint sheens?
Flat/matte hides imperfections but is less durable. Eggshell and satin offer moderate durability with slight sheen. Semi-gloss and gloss are highly durable and easy to clean, ideal for trim, kitchens, and bathrooms.
