Warm White Limewash Dining Room & Entry — Glen Rock, NJ
In this Glen Rock, NJ home, we limewashed the dining room's upper walls above the existing white wainscoting, then carried the same finish through into the entry hallway. The goal was to soften the contrast between the crisp wainscoting and the walls, and to add warmth and subtle movement that changes with the light — while letting the black-and-brass fixtures and the dark dining table stay the anchors of the room.
The finish is a warm white limewash from the Meoded Lime Wash system, hand-brushed for a soft, cloudy movement. It is never flat, and no two walls read exactly the same.

The Process
Step One · Protection
Protection First
Before any finish is opened, the room is protected. Wainscoting, furniture and floors are masked and covered, the sconces are wrapped, and ceiling lines are taped so the limewash lands only where it belongs.

Hand-Brushed Limewash
Limewash is applied by hand with a block brush in criss-cross strokes over the prepared wall. The brush pattern is what creates the soft, cloudy movement — there is no roller line and no flat, painted look. Each wall is worked in full sections, wet edge to wet edge, so the movement flows across the wall instead of stopping and starting.

The Finished Rooms
The finished walls carry a warm white limewash with gentle movement above the crisp white wainscoting, and the same finish continues into the entry hallway. In daylight the walls read soft and even; under the chandelier in the evening, the texture comes alive.

Why Limewash Worked Here
Movement softens a formal dining room without the risk of committing to a color. The mineral finish reads differently as the day turns — even and calm in daylight, textured and warm under the chandelier — and both are visible in the photos above.
Limewash also pairs naturally with traditional wainscoting and millwork, which makes it a strong fit for Bergen County colonials and newer traditional homes like this one.
